Everyone wants to know that they have got the best possible deal when they buy something online – hence the popularity of comparison sites. These work especially well for hotels, where you can get different prices for the same room at the same hotel from many different sources.

Why is this not the same as getting the same car from many different sources? With rental cars, each rental company equates to a different hotel, the service levels and charges are different and the terms and conditions of rental vary greatly -so the “room” (car) can’t be the same. 

There are dozens of comparison companies servicing the rental car market, but they don’t cover the entire market place. We do not appear on any of these comparison sites for two reasons:

(a)         We don’t have a minimum of 6 different locations (so we aren’t widespread enough for them).

(b)         We won’t pay them any commission.

Apart from not having us and other similar companies on their comparison lists, the major shortcoming of these services is that you are presented with an array of “prices” which don’t include any “optional extras” such as after-hours pick up or return, insurance excess reduction, extra drivers, child seats etc. When you make a selection of one of the offered vehicles you then become isolated from any comparative information in respect of all other rental companies.

The couple of dollars that you “saved” by picking the car that you did, might turn into a negative $100 or more because of major variances in the add-on prices and possibly thousands of dollars because of serious deficiencies in some rental companies' insurance cover.
