Recycling Initiative for Customers and Staff
On 1 November 2018, Queensland joined the 10c deposit scheme on many varieties of drinks containers, like the operations that have been in South Australia and Northern Territory for some time.
We realised that our holiday customers who come from all over Australia and from overseas do not have a real opportunity to cash in the containers that they have acquired during their short stay in our parts.
We saw this as an ideal opportunity to suggest to our customers that they bring their cans and bottles back to our depot when they return their rental vehicles prior to them going home.
Eligible containers are Aluminium; Glass; Plastic and Cardboard liquid containers, such as:-

Beer; pre-mixed alcoholic drinks; soft drink and water containers between 150ml and 3 litres;

Flavoured milk and pure juice containers up to 1 litre
We have built a small recycling section at our depot where we can stash bottles and cans in separate containers and then take them to the exchange centre.
The proceeds will be shared equally amongst the six community benefit groups that we have chosen to support.
We have registered with Queensland’s Containers for Change Scheme; our Registration ID is: C10075766 – enabling us to return eligible containers to any of their exchange centres and have the proceeds deposited on behalf of the community benefit organisations which we support.
Whilst the contributions may not reach impressive sums of money, they will be made every day of the year – there isn’t a day when no one is returning one of our cars.
Our first trip to the exchange centre raised a modest $23.90. We expect to be making trips each month and hope that the contributions made by our staff and customers will grow with each trip.
It isn’t often that car rental companies have an opportunity to make a positive contribution to both community service groups and to the environment – we are glad that we have made this initiative.
All expenses in relation to this Recycling for Charity program are borne by Gold Coast Family Car Rentals and the program will fully and equally benefit our chosen charities.
